Trump’s Historic Supreme Court Hearing on Birthright Citizenship
President Donald Trump made a significant appearance at the Supreme Court on Wednesday regarding his executive order aimed at abolishing birthright citizenship. Reports indicate this event is quite notable.
On that Wednesday morning, Trump arrived at the Supreme Court, reportedly with Attorney General Pam Bondi beside him. This marked the first time an incumbent president attended a Supreme Court hearing to witness oral arguments directly.
“This is one of the great scams of modern times!”
Trump’s executive order, known as Executive Order 14160, was reportedly signed on Inauguration Day and could affect around 225,000 individuals born each year. The order specifies that citizenship does not automatically apply to a person born in the U.S. if either parent was unlawfully present or if the mother was in the country legally but temporarily at the time of birth.
In a brief statement prior to the hearing, Trump mentioned to reporters that he had been listening to the discussions surrounding this issue for a considerable time. He expressed his belief that birthright citizenship shouldn’t extend to foreign billionaires wanting to establish citizenship for their children.
Trump continued his argument by tracing the origins of birthright citizenship back to the post-Civil War period, emphasizing its purpose in protecting the rights of children born to enslaved parents rather than wealthier individuals.
He added, “This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen,” when discussing the implications of the current interpretation of birthright citizenship.
Regarding his view of the Supreme Court justices, Trump candidly said that he has mixed feelings about them, “I like some of them, but I don’t like others.”
While attending the hearing, Trump took to social media to label birthright citizenship as “one of the many great frauds of our time,” further cementing his stance on the issue. His motorcade was seen departing the White House around 9:30 a.m. ET on the day of the event.
