Putin Invited to Gaza Peace Commission

On Monday, President Donald Trump confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to participate in a new peace commission that will oversee the next steps of the Gaza peace initiative.

This revelation came during a conversation with reporters at the college football national championship game in Florida, where Indiana managed to defeat Miami. Trump stated, “Yes, he is invited,” acknowledging the development.

Confirmation from Multiple Nations

The Kremlin reported early Monday that they are considering the details of the invitation and will seek clarification on various aspects in dialogue with the U.S. government.

Interestingly, France has also received an invitation, but a French official close to President Emmanuel Macron indicated that they do not plan to join the commission “at this stage.” French officials expressed concerns about certain principles and frameworks associated with the United Nations.

When questioned about Macron’s participation in the championship event, Trump took the opportunity to critique France, hinting at potential tariffs should they not join the peace effort. “Well, he’s going to leave office soon, so no one needs him,” Trump remarked about Macron, proceeding to joke about imposing a hefty tariff on French wine and champagne.

Wider Participation

Besides Russia and France, several other nations have received invitations, including Israel, Canada, Belarus, Slovenia, and Thailand. Morocco, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Hungary, and Argentina have already confirmed their participation.
