The Trump Justice Department appealed Thursday's order blocking the president's birthright citizenship order hours after the ruling was issued.
The Justice Department filed an appeal in the 9th Circuit Thursday evening. The move comes shortly after US District Judge John Corneau extended a temporary restraining order previously issued. Coughenour has old the Trump administration in a courtroom in Washington, accusing the administration of ignoring the rule of law for political and personal interests.
“It has become increasingly clear to our president that the rule of law is merely a barrier to his policy goals. According to him, it is political or simply something to ignore. Personal interest.” Kofenoa said as he announced his ruling.

The appeal will take place in the 9th Circuit, covering Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Guam. The Court of Appeals issues more progressive judgments, particularly at a higher reversal rate than other circuit courts.
Washington's ruling comes a day after a federal judge in Maryland blocked Trump's executive order.

US District Judge Deborah Boardman, appointing former President Joe Biden, noted Washington's ruling, which was suspended before Trump's orders were not enacted.
The board said citizenship is a “national concern calling for uniform policy” and continues to do so even if the courts say they are not yet on the side of the administration on the issue.

“Citizenship is the most valuable right and was explicitly recognized by the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution,” she wrote in her ruling.

Supporters and opponents of the order stated, “Everyone born or naturalized in the United States opposes the meaning of the 14th amendment, subject to that jurisdiction.
