Trump Administration Cancels Funding for 'Green New Scam' Approved by Biden in Last Moments

DOE Cancels $7.56 Billion in Energy Projects

On Wednesday, the Department of Energy (DOE) revealed it has made the decision to cancel funding for 223 energy initiatives, totaling $7.56 billion.

This cancellation stems from the findings that these projects “are not economically viable and cannot deliver a positive return on taxpayer dollars.” Russ Vought, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, indicated that these funds were considered part of a “left climate agenda” and highlighted that various DOE offices, including those focused on clean and renewable energy, were involved in issuing the initial awards.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright commented on the matter, stating that on his first day, the energy sector undertook the challenge of assessing financial awards, many of which had rushed documentation and didn’t meet reasonable business standards during the Biden administration. “President Trump is dedicated to safeguarding taxpayer money while increasing the availability of affordable, reliable energy in America. Today’s cancellations align with that commitment. The energy sector will keep evaluating awards to ensure taxpayer funds are effectively utilized,” he noted.

Vought also mentioned that nearly $8 billion in what he termed “green new fraud funds” had been canceled, expressing a need to redirect efforts away from what he perceives as a politically driven climate agenda. These canceled projects were spread across several states, including California, Colorado, and New York.

In what appears to be a shift from former President Joe Biden’s energy plans, which focused on promoting intermittent green power, the Trump administration is looking to introduce more substantial regulations on such initiatives.

Wright indicated that the Biden administration had expedited loans and awards under the DOE before Trump’s anticipated return to office, which prompted him to direct a thorough review to cancel certain awards in order to protect taxpayer interests.
