Trump administration eyes elimination of program that helps low-income people heat and cool their homes

The Trump administration is considering helping the end of a program that will help low-income people warm and cool their homes.

A draft of the budget request document reviewed by Hill calls for the elimination of the Low Income Housing Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) by providing no funding at all.

The federal budget is managed by Congress rather than by the presidential administration, and Liheap has historically had bipartisan support. Therefore, this document does not necessarily mean that the program is actually eliminated.

However, the Ministry of Health and Human Services has already fired all staff working in the LIHEAP office.

This document calls for the elimination of other programs, including Head Start, which offers free learning services such as kindergartens to young children. It also eliminates a variety of other programs related to community services, rural development, nutrition and disability services.

The document comes as the Trump administration attempts to restructure the federal government, including firing a large number of employees. The administration has directed the agency to put together a plan for restructuring.
