The Pentagon has halted shipments of crucial weapons to Ukraine, which includes Patriot missile interceptors and 155 mm artillery shells, marking a significant point in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. This decision was confirmed by Fox News.
According to U.S. military personnel monitoring the situation, the weapons were already prepared for shipment in Poland prior to the freeze.
This outage resulted from a review by Elbridge Colby, the Secretary of Defense for Policy, who found dangerously low levels in U.S. munitions stockpiles. Politico was the first to report this development.
“This decision prioritizes America’s interests,” stated White House assistant reporter Anna Kelly, who also shared comments with Fox News Digital. “The U.S. military’s strength remains unquestionable. Just ask Iran.”
Trump has expressed sympathy for Ukrainian journalists whose spouses are involved in the conflict. Colby, known for his tough stance against China, has been influential in shaping U.S. defense strategies, including those regarding Ukraine.
Politico indicated that the withheld weapons also include air defense munitions, precision-guided shells, and Hellfire missiles for Ukrainian F-16s.
Colby noted that stockpiles of Patriot interceptors and other critical munitions have fallen to levels deemed insufficient for operational needs. Although the Army has quietly increased its procurement goals for these interceptors, experts emphasize that replenishing supplies takes time.
Meanwhile, Russia has escalated its military actions, launching a significant barrage of nearly 500 drones and 60 missiles over the weekend, intensifying the strain on Ukraine’s air defenses, much of which depend on U.S. support.
After discussions with Ukrainian President Zelensky at the NATO summit, Trump mentioned, “They’re looking for anti-missile systems… We’ll see what’s available.”
It’s anticipated that the remaining funds allocated by the Biden administration will be depleted in the coming months.
