The Trump administration has taken significant steps to bolster parental rights and protect children’s innocence by introducing new policies regarding federal sex education funding.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a statement emphasizing that the Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPPP) is designed to offer “medically accurate and age-appropriate programming” aimed at decreasing teenage pregnancies. The statement made it clear that funds cannot support materials that introduce radical ideologies. According to HHS, grants aligned with TPPP should not cover subjects like anal sex, masturbation, sexual role play, foreplay techniques, or content that promotes gender ideology.
“HHS is focused on ensuring that American youth thrive and remain healthy, which includes efforts to reduce teenage pregnancies,” said Health Advisor Dr. Dorothy Fink in a press release. “Encouraging parental involvement in education on sensitive topics creates a positive setting for children to learn essential and appropriate information.”
The HHS also stated that program funds cannot endorse anti-American ideologies, highlighting the need for grants that respect parental rights, including the option to opt-out of LGBT lessons and advance notice for other potentially sensitive content.
TPPP, established in 2010 during the Obama administration, had diverted funds from exclusive abstinence-based education to programs that aim for more comprehensive sexual education, which some argue normalizes certain ideologies among younger children.
Planned Parenthood reported serving over 1.3 million individuals through its comprehensive sexual education initiatives in 2023-2024, reinforcing its position as a leading provider of sexual education in America. Over the past decade, the organization has received millions in federal dollars to create and implement comprehensive sexual education under the TPPP.
Doctor Kurt Miceli voiced support for the Trump administration’s stance, stating that protecting minors from radical ideologies disguised as healthcare is crucial. “Taxpayer money shouldn’t fund programs that harm children by promoting certain ideologies,” he remarked.
The Daily Caller News Foundation revealed that Planned Parenthood’s programs include gender ideology in schools. Amid anticipated cuts to TPPP funding, Planned Parenthood has entered legal disputes challenging restrictions imposed by HHS. A ruling against them in June 2025 was met with an appeal.
Planned Parenthood has not commented on these developments.
