White House Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of National Energy Control Council
On Saturday, the White House marked a year since President Donald Trump launched the National Energy Control Council. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum highlighted the achievements during this time, pointing to increased production and reduced gas prices as significant “real savings” for Americans, in stark contrast to the Biden administration’s approach.
Burgum, who chairs the council, stated, “The President’s leadership and the Council’s persistent efforts have led to historic milestones in energy production, affordability, and security.” He mentioned that gasoline prices are at their lowest in years, permits are more accessible, and U.S. energy exports have surged. “These aren’t just numbers; they translate to genuine savings for households, farmers, and small businesses while enhancing our global standing,” he added.
President Trump officially established the National Energy Control Council with an executive order on February 14, 2025. The council’s duties included cutting through regulatory hurdles and coordinating efforts across government agencies to boost U.S. energy production, fast-track permit approvals, and enhance exports, all while striving for the country’s energy dominance.
Military Involvement in Energy Deals
In addition to this initiative, President Trump directed the military to engage in agreements with coal-fired power plants, proclaiming, “We’re going to buy a lot of coal.”
A year later, the administration refers to various indicators showing that U.S. energy production has seen a notable increase under Trump’s leadership, translating to lower energy costs for everyday expenses like gas, heating, and groceries.
For instance, U.S. crude oil production is projected to hit a record 13.6 million barrels per day by 2025, making it the highest globally. In comparison, it took the Biden administration four years to increase production from 11.3 million to 13.2 million barrels per day, a feat described by the White House as “blowing off months of the Trump presidency.”
Moreover, the administration asserts that the U.S. produced 110.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily in November 2025, marking the highest production level since tracking began in 1973. Overall, current production sits about 8% above the Biden administration’s average and 4% above the previous record for natural gas production.
Maintaining a Leading Role in LNG Exports
The U.S. is also solidifying its status as the leading exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), with average exports set to rise to 15 billion cubic feet per day by 2025, up from 11 billion under the Biden administration.
As Burgum commented on this anniversary, he reiterated the government’s commitment to American energy leadership and securing energy abundance for future generations. He emphasized the importance of reliable and affordable energy production to combat inflation and foster economic growth while creating good-paying jobs.
Given the backdrop of record-high inflation during the Biden administration, energy prices have become pivotal in addressing affordability concerns. Cheaper energy usually has a ripple effect throughout the economy, lowering transportation and shipping costs and reducing electricity costs for manufacturers producing various goods.
The White House celebrates lower gasoline prices as a success story, citing an average of about $2.90 per gallon, which is 16% lower than the previous Biden administration average and a significant drop from the June 2022 peak of $5.02. This reduction is particularly beneficial for working families, rural communities, small businesses, and those on tight budgets.
Notably, oil prices have decreased by roughly 18% in 2025, going from an average of $79 per barrel under Biden to $65 per barrel now.
However, environmental advocates criticize Trump’s push for “energy dominance,” arguing it expands fossil fuel usage, undermines climate goals, and could heighten pollution and affect public lands and local communities.
Burgum concluded, “One year ago, President Donald J. Trump inaugurated the National Energy Control Council to restore America’s energy advantage and enhance affordability for hardworking families. Today’s outcomes speak volumes.”
