Special envoy Steve Witkov recently met with Russian officials on the ongoing peace negotiations, and he said the meeting was “positive.”
“This morning I met with President Putin,” Witkov said Sunday on CNN's “The State of the Union.” “I think the meeting was between three and four hours. That was positive.”
Witkov said the conversation was a “solution-based discussion” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The conference comes after weeks of attempts from the United States to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
US officials met with Russian affiliates and essentially stood by Ukraine, raising international concerns. Ukrainian President Voldimir Zelensky met with Trump in Washington, D.C. to support the situation, but the meeting ended with a cry between leaders.
Ukraine and Zelensky tried to repair relations with the United States after Trump suspends aid for a war-torn country.
Officials are pushing for peace talks, including Witkov's meeting.
“The two sides are pretty close today,” he said.
“We've got some really positive results [the] “The Saudi Arabia debate led by national security advisers Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio,” Witkov added, pointing to the recent U.S.-Ukraine Conference.
Witkov said the meeting was positive and the discussion with Putin was “equally positive.”
“We narrowed those differences and now we're sitting at the table,” he said.
