Trump Administration Sends JD Vance to Head Communications Effort on ICE Shooting

Vice President Defends ICE Officer After Fatal Shooting

On Thursday, Vice President J.D. Vance held a briefing at the White House to support the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer involved in the shooting of a 37-year-old woman during an operation in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The woman, Renee Good, was shot by officers as she attempted to flee in her car after blocking the road. Vance condemned media reports portraying Good as a peaceful protester, arguing instead that the agents acted out of self-defense.

“Some in the media—though not everyone here—are misrepresenting the facts… It’s shameful to claim this was an innocent woman driving around Minneapolis who was shot by law enforcement,” he stated.

According to video footage, an officer fired shots while standing directly in front of Good’s vehicle as it began to move. The Vice President, alongside other members of President Donald Trump’s administration, claimed that Good posed a threat to the officers by attempting to use her vehicle as a weapon.

Democrats challenged this narrative, asserting that the use of deadly force by ICE agents was unwarranted. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has called for ICE to cease operations in the city, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has echoed similar sentiments, suggesting tensions between state and federal authorities.

In the footage, several ICE agents approached a maroon Honda SUV blocking traffic. One agent can be heard ordering Good to exit her vehicle before shots were fired as she shifted the car slightly. Good was pronounced dead on the scene.

Vance accused the mainstream media of acting as propagandists regarding the incident, suggesting that Good’s actions were not part of a “legitimate protest.”

“It’s crucial to report the truth. Why would journalists choose to spread extremist propaganda that complicates law enforcement efforts? Your assumption that this woman’s death stemmed from a legitimate protest is flawed. She tried to hit someone with her car, and the officer defended himself,” Vance argued.

The Vice President emphasized that the actions taken by ICE officers were necessary for self-defense, asserting that Good’s behavior was unlawful.

“We can’t know what someone is truly thinking, but we do know she broke the law. The officer felt justified in his actions and believed his life was in danger. What I believe is that she accelerated toward him. We can’t read minds, but we understand she violated the law, and the officer acted in self-defense,” he stated.

Vance also expressed sorrow for Good, describing her as a “victim of left-wing ideology” that radicalized her against ICE.

“It’s tragic, not just because she lost her life, but because I think this ideology influenced her actions. Would a young mother really position her car in front of law enforcement? It feels like a level of brainwashing when someone chooses to confront officers in such a dangerous manner instead of peacefully protesting,” he said.

Following the incident, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and other officials expressed their support for federal immigration agents. Noem mentioned at a press conference that the ICE officer had survived a similar vehicular assault in June by an anti-ICE mob.

Truth Social also commented, suggesting Good was “highly disorganized” and accused the “radical left” of intimidating federal law enforcement.
