Trump advises reporter to seek new employment after Putin inquiry

Trump tells reporter to get a new job over Putin question

During a recent Oval Office encounter, President Trump suggested that a reporter, Marek Wałkuski from Polish radio, might consider finding a new job after a challenging exchange. The reporter inquired about Trump’s stance regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin and the ongoing war in Ukraine, which Trump expressed dissatisfaction over.

Despite the tension, Wałkuski expressed gratitude for the president’s remarks, stating that his response validated his work as a journalist. “I received a reportable answer to my questions… I’m thankful for his advice,” he remarked.

After Wałkuski pointed out what he saw as a lack of action by the U.S. against Russia, Trump quickly defended his administration’s policies, emphasizing the impact of tariffs on India regarding Russian oil purchases. “How do you know there is no action? Did you not hear about the secondary sanctions on India?” Trump asserted, highlighting the significant financial consequences for Russia.

“It costs Russia hundreds of billions. Is that not action? And I haven’t even implemented phase two or three yet,” he added, implying that critics were mistaken in their assessments. Trump continued, suggesting that if Wałkuski felt the U.S. was not acting, he might need to rethink his career. “A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned how India would be involved… they have considerable challenges,” he said.

Wałkuski, who has authored books on the White House and served as the chairman of foreign media groups, has had prior tense interactions with the president. During a meeting in February with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Wałkuski’s questions led to friction involving Trump, Vice President Vance, and Zelensky.

At that time, he had raised concerns about Trump’s perceived alignment with Putin, prompting a reflection on the U.S. as a symbol of strength and goodwill. He noted, “As a child, I viewed the U.S. as a powerful force for good… Now, I hear worries from friends in Poland about your relationship with Putin. What can you say to reassure them?”

Trump responded by stating he had not aligned himself with anyone, asserting that his objective was to facilitate negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Vance then complimented Trump’s diplomatic efforts, but the conversation grew heated when Zelensky commented that negotiating with Putin was fruitless, leading to a chaotic situation.
