Mills issued a statement Friday saying, “Maine will not be threatened by the president's threat.”
“If the President unilaterally tries to take away the benefits of federal funds to children in Maine's schools, my administration and the Attorney General will be able to revive all the rights to restore that fund and the academic opportunities it offers. And they will take necessary legal action,” she added.
Trump gathered Republican governors in Washington on Thursday and said he “hears that men are still playing mains.”
“I hate to tell you this, but we're not going to give them federal money, they're still saying, 'We want men to play in women's sports' , and I can't believe they're doing it…we won't give them federal funds until they clean it up. ” he said.
