Trump Commemorates Fallen Soldiers from 2021 Attack
Former President Donald Trump took time to honor the soldiers who lost their lives in the 2021 Monastery attack. This was a moment of remembrance not only for the service members, but also for their families, known as Gold Star families.
On Monday, Trump issued a declaration marking the fourth anniversary of the tragic event, during which suicide bombers claimed the lives of 13 service members at an airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. He characterized the bombing as “one of the darkest days in our nation’s history,” asserting that the withdrawal from Afghanistan under the Biden administration “empowered” terrorist activities.
The declaration stated, “Just as our nation remembers this heinous attack, we respect the memories of all the brave warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.” It also expressed solidarity with families grieving the senseless loss of their loved ones, committing to never forget the fallen patriots.
The declaration criticized President Biden’s leadership, which Trump claims contributed to the attack. Biden began the withdrawal from Afghanistan in July 2021 but reportedly failed to adequately warn Afghan security forces, which left many service members at risk. Additionally, the release of numerous dangerous individuals from Bagram prisons was highlighted.
Notably, one of these released prisoners conducted the suicide bombing that killed the 13 American service members, injuring many others. This tragedy marked a particularly controversial moment for Biden, as it was perceived by some as an embarrassing reflection of his leadership when he was seen checking his watch as fallen soldiers were returned home.
“It is remembered as one of the most embarrassing and heartbreaking moments in our country’s collective memory,” Trump remarked, reflecting on the event’s impact on national sentiment.
Vice President JD Vance also spoke during the Oval Office event, expressing pride for the fallen soldiers and their families, mentioning that the U.S. President’s failure to acknowledge their sacrifice serves as a significant wrong that they hope to rectify.
