Trump and Musk’s relationship falls apart in public conflict

Trump, Musk relationship implodes in public bitterness

Trump and Musk’s Relationship Takes a Sudden Turn

President Trump’s relationship with Elon Musk took a nosedive on Thursday, not long after speculation about a fallout had started to circulate.

During a meeting with German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, Trump expressed that he was “very surprised” and “very disappointed” with Musk.

Musk quickly responded on social media, stating that his contributions were crucial to Trump’s election win last November.

This marked a significant shift for the two, who were recently seen together in the Oval Office as Trump gifted Musk special keys to the White House.

“I’ve always liked Elon, and I was very surprised by his comments,” Trump remarked, adding that he wished Musk would focus criticism more on the bill being discussed, which he described as “incredible.”

He further likened Musk’s behavior to that of other former officials from his administration who later became vocal critics.

“Honestly, I think he’s missing the point… He’s not the first. People who leave my administration often miss it, some become hostile,” Trump reflected.

Musk wasted no time in responding on X, the social media platform he owns. “Without me, Trump would lose the election, Dems would take the House, and the Senate would be 51-49,” he claimed alongside a video clip of Trump’s remarks.

Musk, known for his role at Tesla and his previous government post, was involved in efforts to streamline government operations during his tenure.

During Musk’s 130 days in the government, he was often seen alongside Trump, even taking rides on Air Force One and attending events at the White House.

Although Musk officially left last Friday on a seemingly positive note, praising Trump in his farewell remarks, his criticisms of a significant piece of legislation soon escalated. This bill, a major settlement package, was part of Trump’s agenda.

By Wednesday, Musk urged lawmakers to “kill the bill” and called it “filled with pork” and detrimental to the federal deficit.

On Thursday, Trump voiced his disappointment in Musk’s criticisms, suggesting that Musk had prior knowledge of the policy changes affecting electric vehicle tax credits, stating, “He knew every aspect of the bill.”

Musk quickly challenged Trump’s assertion on social media, rebutting that the bill had not been presented to him until it was too late to review.

The rapid decline in their relationship was something many political observers had anticipated. Trump’s previous conflicts with figures who overshadow him, such as Steve Bannon, hinted at an inevitable clash between the two high-profile personalities.

Despite the fallout, sources close to the situation indicate that Trump and Musk might still maintain a personal relationship. Musk’s influence and resources are significant enough that Trump may want to keep lines of communication open, even with their disagreements.

“Elon and I had a great relationship,” Trump mentioned Thursday, though he ended on a somewhat ambiguous note about the future of their friendship.
