Trump and Obama Spar Over Candidates in Michigan
President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama exchanged sharp criticisms as they both aim to rally support for their candidate choices in Michigan.
On Saturday, Obama addressed a gathering in Detroit, expressing his support for Democratic candidates, notably Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed (D-Mich.). Meanwhile, Trump has a rally planned for Sunday in Michigan, where he’s been encouraging voters to back U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) for the Senate.
In his speech, Obama focused largely on criticizing the current administration and the Republican party. He claimed that Trump has failed to deliver on his campaign promises and has played a role in the rising affordability challenges faced by Americans. Additionally, he accused the administration of engaging the U.S. in “unnecessary wars.”
Obama also took a jab at the seriousness of the current officials, wondering aloud about how much time Secretary of War Pete Hegseth spends in front of the mirror each day.
“These are not serious people, and we are paying for the price of their lack of seriousness,” he remarked.
Moreover, he criticized Republican candidates for running “scary ads” designed to portray Democrats as radicals, communists, or extremist elements.
El-Sayed has faced scrutiny over alleged connections to the Muslim Brotherhood, which he has denied, along with criticism regarding some controversial comments in his past.
Trump has also heavily criticized El-Sayed, labeling him a “Jihadist” and “Terrorist Sympathizer,” primarily because of his ties to political influencer Hasan Piker, who has attracted controversy for statements like “America deserved 9/11.”
Reacting to Obama’s support for El-Sayed, Trump posted his criticisms on Truth Social, reflecting on Obama’s presidency.
“Obama was a grossly incompetent President! He paid off Iran with billions, and gave them a road to a Nuclear Weapon. He said that Crooked Hillary Clinton was going to WIN, and she lost in every possible way,” Trump stated. “He then campaigned for Kamala, and again, she lost.”
He continued, “Now he’s campaigning for a Muslim Brotherhood Jihadist, who hates Jews and Blacks and AMERICANS and TRUMP, and he is going to lose, also. He’s a Fake Doctor, who runs what people consider to be the WORST CLINIC IN AMERICA. I won Michigan, BIG. I’ve revitalized the Car Industry and everything else. There are more jobs than ever.”
Trump finished by denouncing the Democratic candidate and urging voters to support Republican nominee Mike Rogers.
“Michigan doesn’t want an arrogant, Open Border, Fake Doctor, Jihadist, whose reputation will only deteriorate as more information comes out – And there’s plenty. VOTE FOR MIKE ROGERS! He will never let you down!” he added.
