Trump announces airport emergency, instructs DHS to compensate TSA workers during shutdown

President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he’s planning to sign an executive order in response to the airport chaos, calling it a national emergency. He stated he would use his legal powers to safeguard the country, suggesting that Democrats have carelessly contributed to what he describes as a genuine crisis.

“I will be signing an order to ensure TSA officers receive immediate payment to tackle this emergency,” he mentioned.

The White House indicated that funding from the bill, which has Trump’s backing, would cover TSA workers during this disruption. White House Director of Management and Budget Communications Rachel Corley commented that similar actions were taken during previous government shutdowns, pointing out that Congressional Democrats had created a situation that cannot persist.

Secretary of Homeland Security Mark Wayne Mullin commended the decision, expressing gratitude towards Trump for finding a way to pay TSA employees to alleviate the chaos in airports. He attributed the long wait times and issues with missed flights to the Democrats’ reckless actions surrounding the Department of Homeland Security, urging them to prioritize national security over politics.

This intervention arises amidst a 41-day partial government shutdown, which has created disturbances at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and lengthy queues at airports due to ongoing disagreements over DHS funding and immigration measures.

Trump criticized Democrats for not funding immigration enforcement and attributed the disorder at airports to their actions, while also acknowledging the hard work of TSA officers.
