Trump Announces State Visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla

President Donald Trump has shared the dates for the upcoming state visit from Britain’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla, which will feature a dinner at the White House.

The visit aims to “mark the 250th anniversary of American independence and celebrate the deep-rooted ties and modern relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States.”

This invitation came from President Trump, who expressed his interest in a return visit in 2025, aligning with the milestone anniversary. This event will occur after King Charles had previously welcomed the British royal family in London. Trump’s previous state visit to the UK was deemed quite successful, highlighted by a grand dinner at Buckingham Palace, where he and King Charles exchanged kind words about each other’s nations.

Reflecting on his upcoming visit, Trump stated, “This momentous occasion will be even more special this year as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of our great nation. I look forward to spending time with a King I greatly admire. It’s going to be amazing!”

The confirmation of Trump’s invitation for King Charles to visit was made earlier this month, including plans for a dinner at the White House. The dates for the visit have now been set from April 27th to 30th, with a “beautiful dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28th.”

Details about the visit’s related events are still pending, but Buckingham Palace noted that following their state visit to the U.S., King Charles III and Queen Camilla will visit Bermuda, a British Overseas Territory—marking the first such visit by a sitting British monarch in almost two decades.

While President Trump may face a challenging relationship with the UK’s government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, he has consistently expressed his admiration for Britain and its monarchy.

Recently, British broadcaster GB News reported that Trump described King Charles as “a friend of mine and a great gentleman. He respected me and our country. We had a great time.”

Trump reflected on his relationship with King Charles: “I know him as Prince Charles and I know him as King Charles. I’m so proud of him…He’s going to be here soon. We’re going to have a state dinner. It’s going to be amazing.”

Trump has made history by being invited for two state visits to the UK during his presidency, a unique occurrence. In a toast to King Charles during a previous state dinner, he emphasized the enduring bond between the two countries, stating:

“…A fifth of all humanity was born on these islands, speaking, writing, thinking and praying in a language perfected in the pages of Shakespeare, Dickens, Tolkien, Lewis, Orwell and Kipling…The lionhearted people of this kingdom defeated Napoleon, unleashed the Industrial Revolution, destroyed slavery and defended freedom in the darkest days of Communism and Fascism.

The British people gave the world Magna Carta, modern parliaments, and the scientific method. The British Empire laid the foundations for law, liberty, free speech, and individual rights virtually everywhere the Union Jack has ever flown, including the place called America.”

“…The word special doesn’t convey it enough. We are bound together by history and destiny, by love and language, by transcendent bonds of culture, tradition, ancestry and destiny. We are like two notes in a quart, two verses of the same poem. Each is beautiful on its own, but they’re really meant to be played together.

The bonds of kinship and identity between America and Great Britain are priceless, eternal, irreplaceable, and unbreakable…Together, we have done more good for humanity than any two nations in history. We must work together to protect the exceptional traditions that make us who we are and to preserve the values of the English-speaking world.”
