Former President Trump appeared to confuse former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley with Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) while discussing the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol during a rally in New Hampshire on Friday. Ta.
“'Look at the people in the back, there's a lot of people. This is supposed to be a quaint little area. This is not at all bizarre,'” President Trump told a crowd in Concord, New Hampshire. spoke about the size of the crowd beforehand, and added on later. “You know when. [Haley] When we come here, about nine people gather, but the media never reports on the crowds you know. ”
“By the way, they never reported on the Jan. 6 crowd. You know, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, they — they have all the information, all the evidence, everything. You know what we destroyed, we deleted it? We destroyed it all. That’s all,” Trump baselessly claimed. “For a variety of reasons… like Nikki Haley is in charge of security, we gave her 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard, whatever they wanted. I said no. They don't want to talk about it. They're very dishonest people.”
In his remarks, President Trump appeared to confuse Haley with the former speaker of the House. But Pelosi's office has pushed back against Republican claims that she was responsible for security at the Capitol under her leadership on the day of the riot.
“On January 6th, the Speaker who was the target of an assassination attempt that day, like Mitch McConnell, was not in charge of security at the Capitol,” Pelosi press secretary Drew Hamill said at the time. explained to the Associated Press “This is a clear attempt to cover up and shift blame for what happened on January 6th.”
The National Guard is not commanded by the Speaker of the House.
Footage played during one of the hearings conducted by the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot showed Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., speaking to Cabinet members about the attack on the Capitol. He was also shown talking with the governor and others.
President Biden's campaign mocked President Trump for the apparent mix-up.
“A deeply confused Trump repeatedly disrupted Nancy Pelosi and Nikki Haley, who was in office on January 6,” they said. I wrote to X, formerly Twitter. “They don't want to talk about it.”
