Trump Invites Press to Ride Along with DC Police
WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, President Donald Trump extended an invitation to media members to join the DC Metropolitan Police following inquiries from Breitbart News.
He began his remarks at the Kennedy Center, where he also announced plans to host the 2025 Kennedy Center honors.
During the event, a representative from Breitbart News asked Trump if he would support press members accompanying police on rides. Some media outlets contend that crime in Washington, DC, has decreased, suggesting that experiencing police work firsthand might offer a clearer perspective on the actual crime situation in the capital.
“Of course, if they want to do that, it’s fine for me,” Trump replied. He praised the DC police, noting, “They have a lot of very good people out there. Not all, but they’re very good, very professional. And I think we have a lot of strength. They said 3,500.”
Trump pushed back against media narratives regarding crime rates in the city, arguing that these reports tend to exaggerate the situation.
He further stated, “We’ve been working with the mayor for six months, and she’s been here for many years, and the numbers are worse than ever. The whole stats chart they’ve made, everything is an equipment deal. They’ve taken the guys off because he didn’t want to do the numbers the way they wanted, so they put their numbers out. They said, ‘It’s the best in 20 years.’ No, it’s the worst of 20 years.”
Inviting transparency has been a focus of Trump’s presidency. He concluded by saying, “We’re very open about what we’re doing, so if the media wants to get on the police, if they want to do it, if they feel safe – that’s fine.”
