The House Select Committee on President-elect Trump's two assassination attempts is scheduled to convene for a final hearing Thursday ahead of the release of its long-awaited report.

Chairman Mike Kelly (R-Pennsylvania) said the hearings were aimed at restoring confidence in federal law enforcement.

Trump held a rally in Kelly's district on July 13, when a 20-year-old gunman opened fire on the rally from just outside the security perimeter, wounding Trump and others. . One rally participant died.

The incident led to intense scrutiny of the USSS and its security practices and led to the firing of USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle.

Kelly said he expected the final report to be released around Dec. 13, the “deadline” for the task force to issue its findings.

The commission released an interim report in late October detailing “a lack of planning and coordination between the Secret Service and law enforcement partners ahead of the rally.”
The USSS officials who attended the rally provided “no clear guidance” to state and local officials on how to manage security outside the hard perimeter, and the morning of the rally, the USSS and the laws supporting them did not provide clear guidance. It is said that no central meeting was held with the executive agency. The findings are listed as key failings in the 51-page report.
