Trump Backs Graham as He Pushes SAVE America Act
On Thursday, President Donald Trump expressed his support for Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), coinciding with Graham’s efforts to advance the SAVE America Act.
In a post on Truth Social, Graham stated, “Today, I put forward the American Rescue Act for a vote,” outlining the key provisions of the bill:
1. Voters must show a photo ID.
2. Proof of citizenship is required for all voters.
3. Mail-in voting will only be allowed for reasons like sickness, disability, military service, or travel.
4. Men are not allowed to compete in women’s sports.
5. Transgender surgery for children will not be performed.
He urged every Republican in South Carolina to support Lindsey Graham, declaring, “He has my complete backing and will not disappoint you!”
Reacting to Trump’s endorsement, Graham said, “I’m honored to lead the charge on the SAVE America Act, one of the most crucial pieces of legislation your team has drafted.” He added that it reflects common sense and mentioned the Democrats’ opposition, expressing gratitude to the president for his support and its significance for South Carolina’s Republican primary voters.
Earlier in March, Trump had indicated he wouldn’t sign any legislation until the SAVE America Act was passed to ensure election integrity.
In a recent social media post, Trump praised Scott Pressler for discussing the importance of the filibuster in passing the American Rescue Act, which he claims has overwhelming public support. He insisted that this issue needed to take priority, stating, “As President, I will not sign any other legislation until this one passes.”
A newspaper reported on May 15 that Graham was leading significantly against his primary opponent, Mark Lynch.
Regarding the SAVE America Act, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), who has been advocating for its passage, emphasized, “Our elections should be easy to vote in yet difficult to cheat.” He pointed out that while most countries require voter ID, the U.S. has not yet adopted such measures.
Lee contended, “We can’t afford to allow individuals who are not eligible to vote to have that power. The House has passed the SAVE America Act, and we now have a chance to vote on it.” He assured that the bill wouldn’t disenfranchise anyone; rather, it would enhance the integrity of the voting process, encouraging easy access while preventing fraud. “Let’s pass this bill,” he concluded.
