Trump Discusses Abraham Accords at G7
Evian-les-Bains, France—During the G7 meeting, President Trump expressed hopes that more Arab nations might join the Abraham Accords, a series of agreements aimed at normalizing relations between Arab countries and Israel. This statement came while he was in conversation with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE.
In response to a question from Breitbart News about whether he had been in talks with Arab leaders regarding these agreements, Trump shared his enthusiasm. He described Sheikh Mohammed as a forward-thinking individual who has been proactively engaging in fostering relationships since the accords were first introduced during his presidency in 2020.
Trump praised the original signatories of the Abraham Accords, which include Bahrain and the UAE, referring to them as “very smart countries.” He noted that, despite the tensions during the Iran crisis, none of these nations withdrew from the accords, emphasizing this as a testament to their commitment.
He remarked, “Can you believe that even during that conflict, not a single country dropped out? No one ever said they were leaving.” This resilience was a point of pride for him.
The president also conveyed an optimistic view that additional Arab nations would soon join the accords, identifying Iran as a significant barrier to broader participation. “I believe they will start joining the Abraham Accords from now on. The main issue was Iran, and I get that it created fear,” he said. “But I think that, moving forward, many will come on board.”
This discussion follows Trump’s earlier calls for various countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, to enter into the agreements.
Senator Lindsey Graham remarked that Trump’s statements about the Abraham Accords at the G7 were particularly significant. He expressed his hope that future negotiations would curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions and stated that Trump’s strategies had severely weakened Iran and its affiliates.
Graham added that achieving peace through the expansion of the Abraham Accords would signify a substantial victory against Iran. He commented, “If a conflict with Iran led to this, it could be one of the most successful military operations for the U.S.”
