Trump at His Best: President Gives Heartfelt Eulogy for Lindsey Graham

President Trump Honors Sen. Lindsey Graham in Eulogy

In a heartfelt tribute at the Washington National Cathedral, President Donald Trump delivered a moving eulogy for the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina). Attendees included world leaders, Cabinet officials, Congress members, and Graham’s family.

Following a choir’s rendition of “Thou Art Great,” Trump stepped up to the altar to commemorate his longtime friend. “For over 30 years, nothing significant has happened in this nation’s capital without Lindsey Graham’s input. In this unparalleled republic, no bill was passed without his voice,” he remarked.

He reflected on Graham’s vibrant spirit, stating that although his life was cut short, he lived fully and passionately, proving to be a devoted statesman committed to the country he cherished.

Trump recalled how Graham honed his political skills at his family’s pool hall, where his father showed him the importance of balancing humor with toughness to ensure success. “That’s just who Lindsey Graham was,” Trump emphasized, speaking of Graham’s ability to connect and yet be formidable.

The president shared that after their parents passed away, Graham took on the role of guardian for his younger sister, Darling Graham Nordon. He noted that Darling is now running for U.S. Senate, with Trump’s endorsement. “It’s fitting that the woman who embodies Lindsey’s proud legacy continues his work in the Senate,” he mentioned.

Trump highlighted Graham’s arrival in Washington post the 1994 Republican victory, noting he was the first Republican to win the district in over a century. He described him as a “master of strategy” who made significant contributions, including record military funding and the largest tax cut in American history through the Great Big Beautiful Act.

As Trump spoke, he acknowledged the global leaders present to pay their respects. “His influence is such that leaders from around the world are mourning here today. Lindsey was always himself, irrespective of the situation,” he stated.

The president recounted amusing anecdotes from Graham’s encounters with notable figures, including the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and the Dalai Lama. Trump humorously recalled Gaddafi’s disappointment during their meeting, which elicited laughter from the audience.

Reflecting on their initial interactions during the 2016 Republican primary, Trump recalled that he and Graham didn’t start off well. Graham had publicly shared his cell phone number after receiving unfavorable comments from Trump, which led to an amusing exchange that forged a lasting friendship between the two.

In closing, Trump said, “Lindsay, we love you. God bless you. You were truly special, and we will always be with you.”
