Trump Talks Peace Agreement Between Israel and Hamas
In a recent interview, former President Donald Trump attributed the successful negotiations between Israel and Hamas to a combination of “luck” and “talent.” He expressed surprise at the level of global support for the peace deal, saying, “Honestly, the whole world came together. More countries came together than I could have ever imagined.” This announcement comes after extensive conflict in the Middle East, looking to bring an end to two years of war.
Trump mentioned that the remaining hostages in Gaza might be released as soon as Monday. Reports indicate that nearly 50 hostages remain, with 20 believed to still be alive.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared on social media that the government will convene to approve the initial phases of the ceasefire and hostage release agreement. Trump also acknowledged the efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in facilitating the negotiations, which form part of his 20-point peace initiative.
The announcement followed the arrival of U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Egypt for discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict and securing the release of the hostages.
During the interview, Trump emphasized the unprecedented support for the peace initiative, stating, “More countries than you can imagine have pledged to wish us well and to do whatever it takes.” He added that the regional implications of this agreement could potentially bring about stability not just for Israel, but for various countries within the Middle East.
Additionally, officials mentioned plans for Hamas to release the living hostages within the weekend, coinciding with a phase of Israeli troop withdrawals from parts of Gaza. The Hostage and Missing Families Forum, advocating for the release of all hostages, called for immediate government action to formalize the agreement, warning that any delays could jeopardize the hostages’ safety.
This moment also marks the anniversary of a devastating attack on Jewish communities, amplifying the urgency for resolutions to the conflict and the strain of global isolation felt by Israel.
Meanwhile, the ongoing war has reportedly resulted in over 67,000 Palestinian casualties, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, without clarifying whether these include civilians or combatants.
