Will Schaaf, the Republican candidate for Missouri attorney general and Mr. Trump’s lawyer, said Monday that District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against former President Donald Trump is “not going to be resolved anytime soon” and that it will take longer than the Republican presidential candidate expected. He has announced that he may be withdrawn from election activities.
Schaaf appeared on “The Vince Collan’s Show” and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicted Trump on 34 felonies for allegedly falsifying business records to pay porn star Stormy Daniels. They discussed Mr. Trump’s ongoing trial in New York. (Related: Alvin Bragg’s team finally produces documents that will be the centerpiece of the case against Trump – there was just one catch)
After Trump suggested on Monday that Bragg’s team was suggesting the trial could be extended “another two to three weeks,” Colyanese asked Trump’s lawyers to give him a “sense of the trial’s schedule.” I asked.
“Yes, that was towards the end of today’s court session,” Schaaf said. “After the jury was out, Judge Marchand asked the lawyers to estimate how much time they had left. That was the prosecution’s estimate. It is noted that the court will have several days off in the coming weeks. Deserves. But I think 2-3 weeks is in line with what we expected here. 2-3 more weeks. They have more witnesses. ”
“Then we will know what evidence needs to be presented in terms of witness documentation and so on,” he continued. “I think it will depend on the strength of the prosecution’s case. We realize right now that the strength of the prosecution’s case is very, very weak. So it could also affect the timing. But I think we all want to get President Trump out of court and back on the campaign trail as soon as possible.”
Collanese asked Schaaf about the extended timeline, pointing out that so far only the prosecution’s case schedule has been estimated, and the defense’s time has not yet been taken into account.
“exactly. [The] Defense case and closing argument. And, you know, it can be a complicated process after the jury is indicted, but the jury has to go and decide this mess. So we are facing this problem. As you know, this isn’t going to end anytime soon. We’re a little further down the road here,” Schaaf said.
“So, finally, when it comes to this issue, it looks like the trial will continue for at least another four weeks,” Colyanese pressed.
“That’s very possible,” Scharf acknowledged.
Although Trump is tied to blue states and banished to the campaign trail on weekends, the former president still tours New York. Last week, after court, the former president stopped by to visit with New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firefighters and brought them pizza. Video footage of the moment shows Trump shaking hands with the officials, then a voice can be heard saying, “Sir, please help me,” as others echo.
President Trump also made headlines in April when he visited Steamfitters Local 638, where one of the union members supporting the former president sent a two-letter message to President Joe Biden: “Fuck you.” Union manager Bob Bartels said after the visit that a survey of members showed Mr. Trump had a “3-to-1” lead over Mr. Biden among the union’s 9,000 members.
