Trump-backed Van Orden projected to defeat Dem challenger in competitive Wisconsin district

Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden is expected to fend off a stiff challenge from Democrat Rebecca Cook and avoid an upset in Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District election on Tuesday.

Mr. Van Orden was first elected in 2022, and the incumbent was first elected in 2024.

He is a retired Navy SEAL and a vocal supporter of former President Trump, who endorsed him on the campaign trail. Van Orden is also an ally of the Republican House leadership.

Mr. Cook is a local business owner who was appointed to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation by Wisconsin Democratic Governor Tony Evers.

Democrats won a heated primary in the district to face Van Orden.

Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District includes Dunn, Pierce, Pepin, Eau Claire, Buffalo, Tremperloo, Jackson, Monroe, La Crosse, Vernon, Richland, Crawford, and Grant counties. County, Adams County, and portions of Portage County.
