Trump backs Ashley Hinson in Iowa Senate race

President Trump expressed support for GOP Rep. Ashley Hinson from Iowa on Friday, following the retirement announcement of Senator Joni Ernst from the state.

In a post, Trump said, “I know Ashley well, and she’s a winner! She’s a proud mother and a great person who constantly advocates for Iowa, and she will continue to do so in the US Senate.”

He praised her efforts in job creation, tax cuts, and championing American-made products, stressing her dedication to supporting farmers and agriculture.

This endorsement came shortly after Senate Majority Leader John Tune from the Republican Party emphasized the need for strong conservative voices in the Senate, noting Hinson’s commitment to the President’s agenda.

Tune remarked, “The Senate needs conservative fighters, and that’s exactly what Ashley Hinson is.” He highlighted her relentless energy and determination to secure significant victories for Iowans.

Hinson’s campaign is already well-funded, boasting $2.8 million as she prepares to challenge Senator Chuck Grassley in the GOP primary and compete against former state Senator Jim Carlin for the party’s nomination in the upcoming 2026 race.

On the other side, Democratic leaders are optimistic about winning the seat vacated by Ernst, suggesting her departure stems from ongoing issues.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democratic Senate Campaign Committee Chair Kirsten Gillibrand issued a joint statement, warning that the Senate GOP majority faces risks due to Trump’s agenda. They claimed the rising costs and healthcare issues would negatively impact voters in their states, urging that Republicans might prefer to exit rather than defend their positions. They believe Democrats are well-positioned to gain seats and advocate for working families.
