This comes after Mr. Trump and Mr. Johnson (R-Louisiana) clashed over the chairman's decision not to suspend the debt ceiling, but nevertheless supported Mr. Johnson's insistence on keeping the gavel in January. is.

“Chairman Mike Johnson is a good, hard-working, and godly man,” the president-elect wrote on Truth Social. “He will do the right thing and we will continue to win. Mike has my full and complete support. MAGA!!!”

Meanwhile, Trump's support could be a major factor in Johnson's election as speaker of the House despite only a small number of Republican opponents.

Assuming all members show up to vote, Johnson cannot afford to lose more than one Republican vote in the House race.

This signal of support comes as Trump touts his election victory, runs a “very expensive 'sinking ship,'” and “allows the Department of Justice and FBI to use weapons against my political opponents.” The message came at the end of a post in which he harshly criticized the Democratic Party.

“But it didn't work. It was a disaster!!!” Trump said. “We must not waste this great opportunity we have been given. The American people need immediate relief from all the destructive policies of the previous administration.”

At the time, Trump, along with Tesla founder Elon Musk and other finance leaders in the House Republican conference, wanted to tie federal spending to lifting the debt ceiling and scrap an earlier draft of the funding bill.

December 20ththCongress passed a new, much smaller bill that eliminated the debt ceiling provision while cutting other costly provisions.
