Trump backs primary opponent of House Freedom Caucus leader Rep. Bob Good days after he attended hush money trial

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday endorsed Good’s challenger, a move that came just days after Good appeared in Trump’s Manhattan trial on charges of falsifying business records, in a move that was reciprocated by House Freedom Caucus leader Bob Good, who endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the Republican primary.

‘Bob Goode is bad for Virginia and bad for America’ – Trump wrote Truth Social.

“He turned his back on our great movement and relentlessly attacked and fought me until recently, when he expressed his warm and ‘loving’ support. But it was too late,” the 45th president added. “The damage was already done.”

Trump, 77, endorsed Virginia Sen. John Maguire, a former aide to the president and a former Navy SEAL, in the June 18 primary.

Rep. Goode (R-VA) was among a group of Republican House members who appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court on May 16 and spoke in defense of Trump in an attempt to circumvent a gag order issued by a judge.

The winner of the Republican primary for Virginia’s 5th Congressional District will have an advantage in the largely rural district that Good has represented since 2021.

“From fighting drug cartels on the front lines to battling drug dealers in Virginia back home, John always puts America first. I built the most secure border in history, built hundreds of miles of wall. Then a villainous Joe Biden came along and ruined it, creating one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the history of our Nation,” Trump said in a statement, positioning Maguire as a more conservative candidate.

“John and I will fix this situation immediately. He will be tough on crime, protect our great service members and veterans, and defend the Second Amendment which is constantly under attack. I fully support John Maguire. MAGA2024.”

Goode was one of eight Republican senators who voted to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from his position on October 3, and on January 1 of this year he took over as chairman of the Freedom Caucus, succeeding Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pennsylvania).

Trump posted his support on Truth Social.

58-year-old Senator He endorsed DeSantis for the Republican nomination last May.He called the governor an example of “courageous conservative leadership” and predicted that “if Governor DeSantis ran for president, he would win.”

DeSantis, 45, dropped out of the race on January 21 after finishing a distant second to Trump in the Iowa caucuses.

In a post by X, Maguire expressed his gratitude. Trump expressed his support,“Together we will fight for our people and save America.”
