Trump Comments on Epstein Case
President Donald Trump recently suggested that those inquiring about Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking should focus on former President Bill Clinton and former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers. His remarks have reignited interest in the Epstein investigation, especially after the Trump administration’s decision not to seal certain documents related to Epstein just a day after U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche met with Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, in Florida.
Trump, speaking to reporters before departing for Scotland, remarked, “You should talk about Larry Summers. You should talk about some of his friends, who are hedge fund guys. They’re all over the place. You should talk about Bill Clinton.” He further accused Clinton of having visited Epstein’s private island, claiming he himself had never set foot there.
Clinton, on the other hand, maintains that he has never visited the island. In his memoir, “Citizens,” which came out in 2024, Clinton asserted that he never planned to meet Epstein in the first place. Representatives for both Summers and Clinton did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Summers, who served as Treasury Secretary under Clinton and held other key economic positions, has previously faced scrutiny due to his connections.
Trump’s comments coincided with the announcement that reviews of Epstein’s case were closed and that no new documents would be released, a move that angered many conservatives after some information was made public by the Justice Department and the FBI in July.
Additionally, the agency declared it would not compile a list of sexual predators linked to Epstein and indicated that no new individuals would be charged. Trump has tried to divert attention from his own interest in the case, stating that there is no substantial information left for the public. He commented, “He’s been dead for a long time. He wasn’t a big factor in life. I don’t understand what interest or attraction is.” This was part of his broader attempt to move on from the noise surrounding Epstein.
