Former President Donald Trump on Sunday blasted “comrade Kamala Harris” for what he called the “Israeli hostage crisis” following the killing of Israeli-American hostage Hersh Goldberg Pollin by Hamas.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: Written:
The Israeli hostage crisis is only happening because Comrade Kamala Harris is weak, incompetent and doesn't know what she's doing. I can't wait to see her at the debate! Biden failed and now spends his days at the beach plotting ways to defeat me, his former political opponent who defeated him at the debate and off. If I were President, the October 7th Israeli crisis would never have happened.
Notably, President Trump did not blame Harris specifically for the deaths of the hostages, but rather the crisis as a whole.
Harris (like President Joe Biden) had sought to prevent Israel from entering Rafah, the Gaza Strip town where Goldberg-Polin and five other hostages were found dead inside a Hamas tunnel on Saturday.
Biden, speaking from a vacation in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, said he had worked “tirelessly” to secure Hirsch's release and would continue to work “day and night” to negotiate the hostage situation.
Critics speculated online that Israel could have rescued them if it had entered Rafah sooner.
An autopsy revealed that the hostage had been alive until very recently and had been shot in the head within the previous 48 hours, likely to prevent rescue by Israeli forces.
Trump has long maintained that the Oct. 7 attack and the subsequent war would not have happened if he were president. There was no war between Israel and its neighbors during his 2017-2021 term, and he negotiated the Abraham Accords peace agreement between Israel and several Arab countries.
