Trump Brags About ‘Fruitful’ Talks with Mexico and Japan During Tariff Clash

Trump touts ‘productive’ chats with Mexico, Japan amid tariff battle

President Trump stated that he had a “constructive” discussion with Mexico and Japan as he seeks to finalize agreements regarding his trade strategy.

“I had a very constructive call yesterday with the President of Mexico.” Trump mentioned Thursday in a Truth Social post. “I also engaged with top Japanese trade representatives. It was a very productive meeting.”

“All nations, including China, are eager to meet!” Trump emphasized Thursday, “Today, Italy!”

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met Trump at the White House on Thursday. She is anticipated to advocate for the European Union as she confronts 20% tariffs from the US.

Last week, Trump warned of imposing extra tariffs on Mexico due to ongoing water disputes. Mexico has declared it will supply water to the US

in another post. Starting Wednesday, Trump indicated that meeting with the Japanese trade delegation in Washington is a significant honor and claimed “great progress” has been achieved.

Trump was directly involved in discussions with Japanese officials. This indicates strong interest following his tariff initiatives that unsettled the economy. The president held meetings with officials alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent and Commerce Secretary Howard Luttonick, as reported by the Associated Press.

Japanese Prime Minister Isba told reporters in Tokyo that his team found the talks to be “very candid and productive.”

Trump’s post follows his warning that he would rescind a 90-day hiatus on mutual tariffs if he does not take action on deals with his administration.

He has declared various tariff rates for countries worldwide. Concerns heightened and markets began to fluctuate, leading Trump to implement a 90-day pause, setting tariff rates to 10% for all except China.

He imposed a 145% tariff on China, which responded with nearly identical tariffs on the US.

Trump had earlier expressed confidence that a resolution with China could be reached, but officials noted earlier this week that China has not yet made contact.
