Trump Brought ‘Energy’ and ‘Enthusiasm’ to Meeting

“Something is happening in this country,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) said after former President Donald Trump met with Republican lawmakers, noting that the former president brought an “energy” and “enthusiasm” to the meeting that was also seen across the country.

“It is a great pleasure for us to welcome home this morning our 45th president, and soon to be re-elected as our 47th president,” he said, explaining that Trump brought “extraordinary energy and excitement and enthusiasm this morning” that he has seen within the party “across the country.”

“A lot of us are traveling around the country. I could go on and on. We’ve been to 29 states, we’ve had events in 123 cities. We’ve been to Democratic states, battleground states and everywhere in between, there’s something happening across the country,” Johnson said, noting that Trump repeated the phrase multiple times in his remarks.

“He feels it and he sees it. He had 107,000 people at his rally in New Jersey. He travels all over the country, just like us, and we all see the same thing,” the speaker said, making it clear that the upcoming election will be “certainly the most important election in our lifetimes, and probably in America in over a century.”

“Everything is at stake,” he said. “The Biden administration and President Biden have messed up every area of public policy, and the public knows it, and they’re desperate for answers.”

“They want a response to what’s making them sick, and our party is here to provide that,” he continued, touting the “exceptional” candidates running great campaigns across the country.

Johnson expressed confidence that the Republican Party was headed for a “great November”, but made clear the party was “not taking anything for granted”.

“We have to fight as if we’re losing by 10 points, but I’m very encouraged by the polls. … I believe we can take back the White House and the Senate and increase our House majority, and once we do that, we won’t waste a moment,” he said, referring to “aggressive policies that will solve all the big problems facing this country right now.”

Mr Johnson added that he had spoken to some “long-time” political colleagues who told him they felt more confident and enthusiastic than they had ever felt in 40 years of politics.

“I think this is probably a good indicator of how people across the country are feeling. Something is happening. We’re excited about it,” Johnson added.
