Trump Discusses Ceasefire with Zelensky
President Trump recently had a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky, emphasizing the need for “promising to secure peace.” This discussion followed Trump’s call for a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine on Thursday to further diplomatic efforts.
“The talks with Russia and Ukraine are ongoing,” noted Trump, 78, on The Truth Society. He expressed hope for an unconditional ceasefire lasting ideally 30 days, stating a desire for both nations to uphold the essence of these negotiations.
He added, “If the ceasefire is not respected, the US and its partners will impose further sanctions.”
Zelensky, 47, described the phone call with Trump on X as a “good conversation.” During their chat, both leaders acknowledged the recent ratification by the Ukrainian parliament of a mineral trade agreement with the US, which will allow for a 50/50 profit split from new mining licenses in Ukraine.
“We discussed the ongoing need for peace efforts,” Zelensky shared. Trump inquired about the situation on the battlefield, receiving brief updates. Zelensky reassured him that Ukraine is prepared for a 30-day ceasefire.
Furthermore, Zelensky noted that Ukraine and the United States are “waiting for Russia to support the proposal.” He emphasized Ukraine’s readiness for consultations across various platforms but insisted that Russia must demonstrate genuine intent to end the conflict, beginning with a complete and unconditional ceasefire.
Trump asserted that such a ceasefire should lead towards a peace deal, suggesting that “everything can be done very quickly.” He also mentioned, “If my services are needed, I can be contacted instantly.”
