Trump Calls for Intel CEO’s Resignation
On Thursday, President Donald Trump urged Intel’s CEO, Rip Bu Tang, to resign due to his connections with communist China. This call came after Republican Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton expressed concerns regarding Tang’s ties to various Chinese companies, as outlined in a letter to the Intel board of directors. Some of these companies are reportedly linked to the Chinese Liberation Army, prompting Trump to declare that the only way forward was for Tang to step down.
“Intel CEOs are very conflicted and must resign immediately. There is no other solution to this issue. Thank you for paying attention to this issue,” Trump stated.
Cotton highlighted Tang’s previous role as CEO of Cadence Design Systems, where, on July 28, he was involved in illegal sales of products to Chinese military universities, transferring technology to a Chinese semiconductor firm. These actions allegedly took place while Tang was still at the helm.
Tang, who became Intel’s CEO in March, has reportedly invested over $200 million in more than 600 Chinese companies over the years. This includes connections to Chinese military forces and government agencies, raising significant concerns about Intel’s compliance with national security regulations.
Cotton expressed doubt about whether Intel’s board had addressed Tang’s associations with these military and semiconductor companies linked to the Communist Party of China.
As of Thursday, Intel’s stock had decreased by more than 3% since the market opened. The company has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the situation.
