Trump Criticizes Iranian Peace Proposal
President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with Iran’s reaction to a proposed peace plan, as ongoing discussions aim for a resolution to the prolonged conflict between the U.S. and the Islamic Republic.
“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” Trump posted on Truth Social, offering no additional explanation.
During a brief phone conversation with Axios, Trump described the Iranian letter as “inappropriate.”
“I don’t like their letter. It’s inappropriate. I don’t like their response,” he stated.
Earlier in the day, Trump criticized Iran for what he termed as “playing games” with the United States and the international community for 47 years, and he also took aim at former President Barack Obama’s approach to Iran, particularly the significant financial resources provided to the nation.
“It was so much money that when it arrived, the Iranian Thugs had no idea what to do with it. They had never seen money like this, and never will again,” Trump remarked. “They finally found the greatest SUCKER of them all, in the form of a weak and stupid American President. He was a disaster as our ‘Leader,’ but not as bad as Sleepy Joe Biden!”
He further accused Iran of prolonging the conflict while harming U.S. interests, mentioning “keeping us waiting” and attacking innocent civilians.
“For 47 years the Iranians have been ‘tapping’ us along… They will be laughing no longer!” he added.
A tenuous ceasefire has been in place since early April, but negotiators face challenges in securing a lasting agreement. Major points of contention seem to revolve around Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the administration of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for a significant portion of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas.
Trump and his administration have consistently stated that the U.S. is prepared to resume military operations if negotiations do not yield a satisfactory outcome.
