In a speech at Emancipation Hall on Monday, President Donald Trump named former Wyoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, citing their roles in the Jan. 6 riot.
Trump criticized Pelosi for rejecting additional security offered ahead of the protests and claimed that Pelosi and Cheney had deleted important documents starting on January 6.
“This is a crime because there is virtually nothing left. If it were a civil case, if it happened in a civil case, it would be a criminal offense.”
President Trump said, “I have offered to provide 10,000 soldiers.''
Trump also noted that Pelosi accepted “responsibility” for some of the security breaches that day. “She knows it. She admitted it on the tape her daughter made,” he said.
“In other words, J6 will no longer be J6,” Trump continued. “There wouldn't be a J6, but she refused it. She didn't like it. No, she didn't like it. Maybe she wanted it to be, but she was tremendously guilty. And now we're going to have to go through something like this.'' They destroyed all the evidence, so they didn't proceed. ”
“They deleted everything,” Trump continued. “This is a criminal offense because there is virtually nothing left. Even if it was a civil case, if it happened in a civil case, it would be a criminal offense.”
Trump also took aim at Cheney, who was backed by former Vice President Kamala Harris in her 2024 presidential campaign. Mr. Cheney's father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, was particularly at the forefront of the Middle East conflict during the George W. Bush administration, when Mr. Trump and Mr. Trump were at odds. Other more isolationist Republicans have also criticized it.
“Why are we helping Liz Cheney?” Trump joked. “I mean, Liz Cheney is the worst. She's a crying lunatic, and she's crying.”
Trump added, “The day you decide you don't want to kill people in war, they'll turn against you.” “Liz Cheney hated the concept of not going to war with everyone. 'Let's kill everyone. Let's spend a lot of money on military equipment.' You know where her father works, right?”
