Trump Campaign Says ‘Foreign Sources’ Hacked Internal Communications

In recent reports, the Trump campaign claimed that its internal communications were hacked by “foreign sources hostile to the United States.”

Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chang Confirmed To POLITICO The media outlet said the documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources deemed hostile to the nation. Chang’s statement came after the media outlet reported that it had received internal documents from former President Donald Trump’s campaign via email from an anonymous account beginning around July 22.

The documents sent to the media included a “dossier” the campaign conducted on Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), whom Trump has nominated as his running mate.

On July 22, Politico began receiving emails from an anonymous account. Over the past few weeks, using an AOL email account, the person, who identified himself only as “Robert,” had been passing along what appeared to be internal communications from senior Trump campaign officials. The documents included a February 23 investigation document that the campaign appeared to have prepared about Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance. The document is authentic, according to two people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal communications. One of the people said the document was a preliminary version of the Vance investigation file.

The documents sent to the media reportedly included portions of “investigative documents” regarding Senator Marco Rubio (Republican-Florida).

“These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States and were intended to interfere in the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout the Democratic electoral process,” Chang said in a statement to the outlet. “On Friday, a new report from Microsoft found that Iranian hackers breached the accounts of ‘senior’ officials in the US presidential campaign in June 2024, roughly coinciding with the timeline when President Trump will be selecting his running mate.”

Chan’s statement comes after Microsoft release Page 9 Report Iran’s intelligence agency said on Friday it was “tracking” activities that “increasingly indicate Iranian intent to influence this year’s US presidential elections.”

in Blog In a statement, Microsoft said it discussed the activities of several groups linked to the “Iranian government.”

One of the groups reportedly “sent spear phishing emails to a senior presidential campaign official in June from the compromised email account of a former senior adviser,” according to Microsoft.

Yet another Iranian group, this one with ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), sent spear-phishing emails to senior officials in the presidential campaign in June from a compromised email account of a former senior adviser. The emails contained links that directed traffic to a domain controlled by the group, routing it to the website of the provided link. A few days after this activity, the same group unsuccessfully attempted to log into the account of the former presidential candidate. We subsequently notified those who had been targeted.

“The Iranians know that President Trump will end their reign of terror just as he did during his first four years in the White House,” Chang added.

In July, US officials said they had received intelligence about a possible Iranian plot to assassinate President Trump.

The Department of Justice recently revealed that a Pakistani man with suspected ties to Iran has been arrested and indicted for allegedly plotting to assassinate President Trump and several other U.S. government officials.
