Former President Donald Trump’s campaign said a “special guest” will attend a rally in Arizona on Friday, amid growing speculation that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was giving up on running for president as an independent and endorsing Trump.
“President Trump will host special guests and share his America First policies and vision for lowering inflation and the cost of living, securing our borders, and making our cities safe,” the Trump campaign said in a press release.
Trump is scheduled to speak at a Turning Point Action event in Glendale later Friday afternoon. Kennedy was scheduled to speak in the Phoenix area earlier in the day, sparking rumors that she might appear on stage alongside Trump.
The former president was asked at an event Thursday near the southern Arizona border whether Kennedy would accompany him on Friday.
“Nothing is planned at this time,” Trump said, adding that it would be a “great honor” to receive Kennedy’s endorsement.
Sources close to both the Kennedy and Trump campaigns said there were indications the independent candidate was close to announcing he would drop his candidacy and endorse Trump, but cautioned that nothing was certain yet.
Trump said earlier this week that he was open to giving Kennedy a role in a future administration, and the two men reportedly spoke by phone during the Republican National Convention, where the possible endorsement was discussed.
Kennedy, 70, has struggled to maintain his approval rating in the race, which had risen into the double digits but has now fallen to low single digits in the race between Trump and Democratic nominee Vice President Harris.
