Trump Celebrates a Christian Festival That Dates Back 1,500 Years

Trump Recognizes Archangel’s East Feast

On Monday, President Donald Trump released a statement celebrating the Archangel’s East Feast, a festival with roots that stretch back to at least the fifth century, recognized by various Christian communities.

“Today, I honor the Archangel St. Michael’s East Feast alongside millions of Christians both in America and globally,” Trump remarked. His message was shared by White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt on social media late that evening. This feast, celebrated on September 29 by Western Christians, has origins that date back centuries.

“The Bible tells us that when the devil rebelled against God, St. Michael and his angels cast him down to Earth. For two millennia, Christians have looked to Archangel St. Michael during tough times—seeking his protection, strength, and courage,” he continued.

Interestingly, in 1886, nearly 140 years ago, Pope Leo XIII of the Roman Catholic Church introduced a significant prayer to St. Michael, motivated by concerns about the future of the Western world.

During his presidency campaign on September 29, 2024, Trump had also shared St. Michael’s prayers across various social media channels, notably shortly after surviving a second assassination attempt.

Pope Leo XIV, the current leader of the Catholic Church, chose his papal name in tribute to Leo XIII.

For many Western Christian groups, including the Roman Catholic Church, Lutheran Church, and Anglican Church, the East Feast of St. Michael will take place on September 29. Conversely, Eastern Christian traditions will commemorate the Archangel on November 8.

The White House did not provide a comment when reached by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
