Former Rep. Peter Meyer (R-Mich.) announced Friday that he is discontinuing his bid to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate. It’s a move celebrated by former President Donald Trump, whom Meyer voted to impeach.
“I entered this race believing that we have the best chance of winning in November as we work to correct this situation and reverse the trend lines that have worsened in recent months,” Meyer said in a statement. “That’s because I was there,” he said. Posted in X.

“After prayerful consideration, today I am withdrawing my name from the primary ballot,” the former congressman continued. “Without a strong path to victory, continuing this campaign will only increase the likelihood of a divisive primary that detracts from the essential goal of winning for conservatives in November.” .”
Meyer was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump, 77, for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
