Trump Targets Drug Cartels in Colombia Amidst Ongoing Scandals
As attention remains on various scandals, President Trump is intensifying his efforts against drug cartels and their associates throughout the Western Hemisphere.
This initiative highlights alleged connections between the Colombian president and drug traffickers.
In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump voiced strong criticism of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, labeling him as a major player in the drug industry.
“Colombian President Gustavo Petro is an illegal drug leader who strongly encourages the mass production of drugs in large and small sectors across Colombia. Drugs have become Colombia’s biggest business, and despite significant monetary aid and support from the United States, which seems to have done little to change the situation, Petro has failed to take action,” Trump stated.
He announced an end to U.S. subsidies to Colombia, noting, “These payments and any other aid will stop immediately. The goal of this drug production is to supply large amounts to the United States, causing death, destruction, and chaos.”
Trump concluded his message with a warning, suggesting that if Petro does not address the issue promptly, the U.S. will take action itself.
This announcement follows the administration’s disclosure regarding a recent attack on a suspected cartel ship. Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth referred to the cartels as “the Al Qaeda of the Western Hemisphere.” He described the recent military strike as a significant operation against a vessel linked to the National Liberation.
Congressman Carlos Jimenez (R-Florida) expressed support for Trump’s statements, emphasizing the need to cut aid to Petro’s government. He added, “As representatives of the largest Colombian-American population in the U.S., we are committed to collaborating with opposition leaders who will bring meaningful change.”
Senator Ashley Moody (R-FL) also endorsed Trump’s position, expressing her appreciation for the decision to halt aid, stating that it’s time to end U.S. support for criminal elements at the expense of American citizens.
The White House has yet to provide commentary on these developments.
