Trump Claims He Wants DOJ to Focus on Obama for Supposed 2016 Election Conspiracy

Trump Calls for DOJ Investigation into Obama

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate former President Barack Obama, suggesting he was involved in a scheme to undermine Trump’s 2016 election victory.

National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard has declassified a document that, according to her, presents “overwhelming evidence” that Obama and his national security team “politicized intelligence” in the aftermath of the election. During a press conference at the Oval Office, a reporter mentioned that Gabbard had submitted a criminal referral to the DOJ, raising the question of whether the department should pursue action against the Obama administration.

Trump responded, stating, “Based on what I read… it’s going to be President Obama. He started it. Biden was there too. And Comey, Clapper—all of them were involved.” He elaborated on how the documents paint a clear picture, asserting that Obama was at the center of these actions.

He continued, “Except for the fact that he’ll be shielded by the media for his entire life… he is guilty. There’s no doubt about it. I’m just trying to give it a little more time.” Trump expressed strong accusations, labeling the actions as treasonous and claiming they attempted to manipulate the election.

The document allegedly refutes any claims that Trump acted as a Russian asset, indicating no evidence that Russia sought to manipulate actual vote totals directly.

A note attached to the file pointed out that former DNI James Clapper and the Department of Homeland Security withheld significant context, leading to incomplete narratives in FBI and NSA releases. The memo does acknowledge that the Russian government was responsible for hacking the Democratic National Committee.

Additionally, it contends that some intelligence officials misled the Washington Post about the use of “cyber instruments” to sway the election in favor of Trump, according to their findings.

Gabbard has been vocal about calling for investigations into those involved, emphasizing that accountability is critical.
