Trump Plans Executive Order to Lower Drug Costs
On Monday, President Donald Trump announced his intention to sign an executive order aimed at significantly reducing prescription drug prices—by as much as 30% to 80%. He made this declaration via a social media platform on Sunday.
In his message, Trump expressed confusion over why American prices for prescription drugs are so high, given that they are produced in the same facilities as cheaper versions found elsewhere. He mentioned feeling embarrassed by the lack of a clear explanation for this disparity.

Trump emphasized that pharmaceutical companies often claim that high costs are necessary to support the U.S. market. “The reality is, they haven’t shown a valid reason,” he argued.
He went on to say, “Tomorrow at 9 AM, from the White House, we’ll sign one of the most important executive orders in our nation’s history. This will potentially lower drug prices by 30% to 80% almost immediately.” He acknowledged that while drug costs might rise globally, this would mark a significant step toward fairness in the U.S.
Trump declared his commitment to ensuring that Americans pay the same prices as the lowest worldwide, asserting that this would lead to a fairer healthcare system. “In the long run, we could save trillions of dollars,” he added, expressing optimism about the changes to come.
