Trump’s Warnings About Iran’s Nuclear Agenda
During his State of the Union address, President Donald Trump raised concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions, labeling them as “evil.” He emphasized that the U.S. has not received a commitment from Iran stating it would “never have nuclear weapons.”
This statement came as the U.S. and Iran were gearing up for renegotiations scheduled for Thursday. Trump referenced last summer’s U.S. attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, asserting that after the event called “Midnight Hammer,” Iran was cautioned against reviving its weapons programs—particularly its nuclear efforts. Yet, he noted, they seem to be trying to restart those ambitions again.
While discussing the ongoing negotiations, Trump said, “They want a deal, but I haven’t heard the secret words: ‘We will never have nuclear weapons.'” He expressed a hope for a diplomatic resolution but firmly stated, “I will never allow the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism to acquire nuclear weapons. That will not happen.”
Trump continued, arguing that for decades, U.S. policy has been to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. He criticized the Iranian regime for spreading terror and highlighted the thousands of American military personnel affected by their actions, specifically mentioning the use of roadside bombs.
He added that recent months of protest within Iran have resulted in thousands of deaths, asserting that the regime is capable of developing missiles threatening Europe and U.S. bases, and is reportedly working on missiles that could reach the U.S.
In response, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei dismissed Trump’s claims, labeling them as “flagrant falsehoods.” He argued that whatever statements were made regarding Iran’s nuclear program and missile capabilities were just reiterations of a false narrative.
Baghaei highlighted that such assertions are part of a pervasive “big lie” surrounding the country’s situation. It seems there’s no clear resolution in sight as both sides continue to navigate this complex issue.
