Trump claims Iran seeks an agreement as the US increases military presence

President Donald Trump mentioned that Iran seems interested in discussions with the United States even as it continues to strengthen its military presence in the Middle East.

In a conversation with Axios on Monday, Trump indicated that the Iranian government had reached out “many times” to express a desire to negotiate. “They want a deal. I know that. They have called me many times. They want talks,” he commented.

According to U.S. officials, any potential agreement would necessitate Iran eliminating all enriched uranium, restricting its long-range missile stockpile, redirecting support from regional proxy groups, and stopping its own uranium enrichment—requirements that Iranian leaders have not yet accepted.

The Israeli ambassador to the UN has issued a serious warning to Iran as unrest in the country escalates.

President Trump also described the situation with Iran as “fluid,” noting the recent deployment of U.S. naval resources and mentioning the presence of what he termed “the second largest fleet after Iran. Bigger than Venezuela.”

As previously reported, the USS Abraham Lincoln has entered CENTCOM waters in the Indian Ocean as concerns regarding threats from Iran grow.

On January 21, President Trump remarked, “We have a large fleet heading in that direction and we’ll see what happens. We have a large force heading towards Iran. It’s better if nothing happens, but we’re keeping a close eye on them.”

This military escalation coincides with increased unrest in Iran, which started after protests erupted on December 28th.

Recent information from the Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA) indicates that the death toll from the protests has reportedly reached 5,848, with an additional 17,091 deaths still under investigation.

According to Iran’s International News Agency, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has taken shelter in a fortified underground location.

Axios noted that White House officials stated that potential military actions are still under consideration following President Trump’s announcement of plans for additional talks this week. The White House has been contacted for further comments.
