On Saturday, President Trump stated that he suspects Russian President Vladimir Putin might be trying to restrict him following the recent lethal attack on Ukraine.
“There’s been no justification for firing missiles in civilian areas, cities, or towns in recent days,” Trump remarked. Posted on Saturday A genuine society. “Perhaps he doesn’t want to end the war, he’s just attacking me and I’m starting to think I have to approach this through ‘banks’ or ‘secondary sanctions.’ So many people are on the brink of death!!!”
This comment was made as the president was heading back to the United States after a short meeting with Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky, following Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome. The two leaders discussed their first face-to-face encounter since the contentious oval office meeting earlier this year.
The White House has yet to clarify the topics covered during the approximately 15-minute discussion.
Trump’s recent remarks differ from his statements a week prior when he allegedly insisted “no one was deceiving me.”
Earlier this week, Trump condemned Russia and Putin following a deadly attack in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. He conveyed his frustration to Zelensky on Friday, noting that the signing of a mineral agreement with the US has been stalled nearly two months after the expected contract was shelved.
The Trump administration advocates for a lasting ceasefire in the Ukrainian conflict, but recent developments indicate that both parties are prepared to abandon negotiations if an agreement isn’t reached soon.
The president began his comments on Saturday by holding the media accountable, particularly New York Times reporter Peter Baker.
“Regardless of any agreement made with Russia/Ukraine, no matter how favorable it is, even if it’s the largest deal ever, the failing New York Times will portray it negatively,” the president asserted. “Weak” Peter Baker is a highly biased and ineffective writer for the times, and under orders from his editors, he claims that Ukraine should recapture its territory, including Crimea and other absurd demands, to halt the deadliest murders since World War II.
“Why doesn’t this underwhelming reporter mention that? [former President] Obama allowed Russia to seize Crimea from Ukraine without even firing a shot,” he continued.
In an extensive post, Trump called for former President Biden to resolve the ongoing conflict, reiterating the argument he often made during his campaign. If he had defeated “sleepy” Biden in 2020, the war would not have begun.
“It was doomed from the beginning and it never would have happened, and if I had been the president back then, it wouldn’t have occurred,” he wrote. “I’m just trying to address the chaos created by Obama and Biden.
In a recent interview with Time Magazine, Trump criticized Ukraine for provoking a war with Russia with hopes of NATO membership. He also claimed that if Russia agreed not to invade Ukraine, it would lead to concessions for peace.
