Military Parade in Beijing Marks 80th Anniversary of Japan’s Defeat in WWII
On September 3, 2025, a significant military parade took place in Beijing, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II. The event was attended by global leaders including China’s President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong.
In response to the parade, former President Donald Trump commented that it was “impressive but calculated,” suggesting that it was staged with him in mind.
“The big question to be answered is whether China’s President XI will acknowledge the substantial support and ‘blood’ that the United States provided to assist China in securing freedom from hostile forces. Many Americans sacrificed their lives for victory and glory,” he stated.
Trump also highlighted the military and economic aid the United States extended to China during the war to counter the Japanese invasion. The US and Chinese troops fought against Japan’s forces from 1943 to 1945 in regions now known as northern Myanmar.
During a press conference at the Oval Office, Trump speculated on the “real” intentions behind the parade when asked about it.
“I thought it was very impressive, but I realized why they were doing it. They wanted me to see what I was seeing – and I was watching,” he remarked.
When questioned if he would have attended the parade if invited, Trump replied, “It wouldn’t have been my place.”
The former president was also asked by the BBC whether he believes China and its allies are attempting to form a coalition against global US influence.
“No, not at all. China needs us,” Trump asserted. “I have a very good relationship with President XI. But China needs us a lot more than we need them. I don’t see it at all.”
In contrast, Kremlin officials dismissed Trump’s insinuations of a conspiracy among the three leaders. They implied that perhaps Trump was being ironic in his remarks.
“I want to say that no one is conspiring, and no one even considered such a thing,” stated Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov on Russian state television. “Everyone understands the US, President Trump’s current administration, and the significant role he plays in the international landscape.”
