Trump claims Schumer erred during the struggles within the Democratic Party

Trump Criticizes Schumer in Exclusive Interview

In an interview on “The Ingraham Angle” on Monday, President Donald Trump expressed his belief that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has overstepped his bounds, especially as some Democrats suggest it might be time for a leadership change.

“I think he made a mistake by going too far,” Trump told Laura Ingraham. “He believed he could outmaneuver the Republicans, but it was the other way around.”

On Sunday, eight senators broke from their Democratic colleagues to support a House-passed spending plan aimed at reopening the government, which had been blocked 14 times by their party.

The Senate approved the measure with a 60-40 vote on Monday, with the final decision expected in the House later this week.

In light of these developments, Trump remarked, “I’ve never seen a political shift like this,” as some Democrats, including Rep. Ro Khanna of California, called for Schumer’s ousting.

“I feel sorry for him, because I’ve known Chuck Schumer for a long time,” Trump added, recalling that Schumer once had strong pro-Israel views, commenting that now, “he has become a Palestinian… It’s astonishing to see such a transformation in a politician.”

The protracted government shutdown stemmed from Congressional disagreements over extending Obamacare subsidies, affecting thousands of workers and causing flight cancellations across the country.

Trump alleged that the underlying motive for the Democrats’ actions was to prolong these subsidies, stating, “What they really wanted was to give $1.5 trillion to illegal immigrants and those in and out of prison.”

“We’re working to remove them because we simply don’t want 11,000 murderers in this country. Nobody does. We also have to contend with drug dealers and so many other issues, yet they insist on making sure these individuals have quality healthcare,” he stated.

Further, Trump remarked that financing medical care for undocumented immigrants would negatively impact others’ healthcare access.

He went on to denounce Obamacare, calling it “terrible” and excessively costly, lamenting that “insurance premiums have skyrocketed.” “This isn’t just a recent issue; prices have been escalating for years,” he pointed out.

Trump advocated for making policyholders feel more like entrepreneurs. “Instead of funneling cash to insurance companies, I want to enable individuals to purchase their own health insurance,” he explained.

He added, “In fact, they should have the ability to negotiate their own insurance.”

When Ingraham inquired how Republicans could prevent another government shutdown on January 30, 2026, when current funding runs out, Trump hinted at a new legislative approach.

“Well, we’re planning to introduce a bill that will prevent this from happening again,” Trump replied. “You can’t simply shut down the government in an attempt to renegotiate agreements that weren’t settled.”
