Former President Donald Trump maintains his lead nationally over President Joe Biden even after his conviction in a heavily Democratic Manhattan business records trial, according to a CBS News/YouGov poll.

Trump supporters are more enthusiastic than Biden supporters, with 69% of Biden supporters saying their support for Trump is so strong that they have “decided” that Biden is the nominee. In contrast, 78% of Trump supporters say they support the 45th president so strongly that they have “decided” to vote for Biden.
Just under a quarter of Biden supporters say their support is strong and they’re “probably” not going to change their support, while another 4% say they “might still change their mind” and 2% expect they’ll change their mind eventually.
Among prominent supporters who are “undecided” about voting for Trump, 18% say they have a “strong” support and are unlikely to change their mind, while 4% have a “somewhat strong” support for Trump but “still” might switch candidates.

Further solidifying the difference in enthusiasm for the two candidates is the underlying motivations for respondents to vote for either candidate: More than half of Biden supporters, 54%, said they were voting because they opposed Trump, while just 27% said they were voting because they “like” Biden.
Conversely, 52% of Trump supporters said they were voting because they “like” Trump, and 34% said they were voting to oppose Biden.
Additionally, 51% of respondents see the election as a comparison between the candidates, while 22% see it as a judgement on Biden and 26% see it as a judgement on Trump.
The poll was conducted among 1,615 registered voters, including 1,359 eligible voters. The margin of error for registered voters was not specified, but the margin of error for registered voters was plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
Trump’s one-point lead is consistent with a national Emerson College/Morning Consult poll conducted after his conviction. The Emerson College poll, conducted June 4-5, showed: found Among registered voters, Trump’s approval rating was 46 percent, compared with 45 percent for Biden.
